Dr. Robert Portman - Chairman of the Board
Dr. Robert Portman was named Chairman of the Board in March 2011 and has served as a Director since founding PacificHealth Laboratories. Since August 1, 2008, Dr. Portman has been Managing Principal of Signal Nutrition, a research and development company. Previously he served as CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of PacificHealth Laboratories. Dr. Portman has a Ph.D. in biochemistry and worked as a senior scientist at Schering-Plough and director of scientific marketing at Hoechst-Roussel Pharmaceuticals. In 1974 he co-founded M.E.D. Communications which grew to one of the largest medical agencies in the US. In 1993, Dr. Portman created C&M Advertising, a consumer/medical agency with billings in excess of $100 million. Dr. Portman is coauthor of two books, Nutrient Timing and The Performance Zone and has authored hundreds of articles on how nutrition can improve fitness, health and athletic performance. He is a frequent guest on TV and radio and has been a keynote speaker at many professional meetings and seminars. Dr. Portman holds 12 patents for nutritional inventions to improve sports performance, reduce appetite and manage Type II diabetes.
Fred Duffner - President & CEO
Fred Duffner was appointed to the Board of Directors in January 2010 and currently serves as President and CEO of PHLI. He joined PHLI in August 2008 as SVP Sales. Before joining, Fred directed his own sales and marketing company (Duffner & Associates) focusing on the diet, nutrition, and HBC categories servicing several clients inclusive of NutriSystem Inc.. Fred has spent his whole career in the CPG category with a focus on sales, marketing, and customer development, and led the sales organizations at both Atkins Nutritional and Revlon. Fred also serves on the Board for the American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter.
Michael Cahr - Director
Michael Cahr was appointed to the Board of Directors in April 2002. Since September 2004, Mr. Cahr has been a General Partner at Focus Equity Partners, a private equity investment and management firm that acquires middle market companies and assists them in reaching their performance potential. Prior to Focus, Mr. Cahr was President of Saxony Consultants, a company that provides financial and marketing expertise to organizations in the United States and abroad. From February 2000 to March 2002, Mr. Cahr served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ikadega, Inc., a Northbrook, Illinois server technology company developing products and services for the healthcare, data storage and hospitality fields. Mr. Cahr was Chairman of Allscripts, Inc., the leading developer of hand-held devices that provide physicians with real-time access to health, drug and other critical information from September 1997 through March 1999 and President, CEO and Chairman from June 1994 to September 1997. Prior to Allscripts, Mr. Cahr was Venture Group Manager for Allstate Venture Capital where he oversaw investments in technology, healthcare services, biotech and medical services from October 1987 to June 1994.
Lee Feldman - Director
Lee Feldman was appointed to the Board of Directors in March 2011. In 2006, Mr. Feldman founded and is the Managing Partner of Twin Lakes Capital, a private equity firm focused on branded consumer products, media and business services. Mr. Feldman is the CEO and a board member of of MacKenzie-Childs, the iconic American luxury home furnishings company which designs, manufactures and markets tabletop, furniture and other home furnishings, named to these positions when Twin Lakes led the acquisition of the business in May 2008. Mr. Feldman is also the Chairman of the Board of Gaming VC Holdings (LSE: GVC.L) and a member of the boards of directors of RM Auctions and LRN. Prior to co-founding Twin Lakes, Feldman had extensive experience in private equity, consumer brands and media. Mr. Feldman was a partner in the private equity firm Softbank Capital Partners, ran corporate development at a major media company and was a member of the senior management team of two leveraged roll-ups. Mr. Feldman began his career as a corporate lawyer at a major New York City law firm and has a B.A and J.D. from Columbia University.
